SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dennis G. Mathews of Rock Island, who passed away on August 9, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Mathews was born in Rock Island to Glen and Viola Grieme Mathews on September 1, 1946; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964; following high school, he served in the United States Army; he married Vicki L. DeMeyer in Rock Island on October 16, 1982; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Mathews worked as a machinist for Parr Instrument Co. in Moline for 27 years; in his retirement, he enjoyed a brief career as a dog walker; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Mathews was an avid fan of Rock Island High School sports, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Chicago Bears, and NASCAR; he enjoyed boating on the Mississippi; some of his favorite times were those spent with family; he loved being a grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Mathews was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt, Fern; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Mathews is survived by his wife, Vicki; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and LCDR Scott Shields, USN; his granddaughters, Shelby (Garrett) Stevens, Grace Shields, and Isabelle Shields; his brother, Dean (Debra) Mathews; his nephews, Scott Mathews and Michael (McKenzie) Mathews; and several great-nieces and a great-nephew; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dennis G. Mathews and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dennis Mathews as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
