SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert John Rolih Ph.D., who passed away on December 20, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Robert Rolih was born to Louis and Antonia (Benegar) Rolih on June 12, 1928; he graduated from St. Joseph Grade School, Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College, and the University of Illinois; he earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State University; and

WHEREAS, Robert Rolih worked at the Monsanto Corporation and Amoco before establishing Rho Chemical Company and ARRO Laboratory; he also acquired MER and General Surfactants throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, Robert Rolih was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet, where he proudly served as a Eucharistic Minister and on many counsels; he was also a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Joliet Lions Club; he greatly enjoyed following the Solar Eclipse and traveling to Mongolia, Australia, Tahiti, Bolivia, Curacao, Hawaii, Turkey, and Goreville; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and followed them for many years; he enjoyed reading and listening to classical music; and

WHEREAS, Robert Rolih was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Louis, Tony, John, Joseph, and Frank Rolih, Mary Walker, and, in infancy, Josephine Rolih; and

WHEREAS, Robert Rolih is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lorraine (Sporar); his children, Catherine Rolih (Richard) Weinberg, Joan Rolih, and Mark (Donna) Rolih; his grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Weinberg and Anne and Samuel Serdar; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert John Rolih Ph.D. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Rolih as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
