SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nelson Gene Peterson of Moline, who passed away on June 24, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Nelson Peterson was born in Moline to Rudolph T. and Nellie (Nelson) Peterson on August 20, 1923; he graduated from Simpson College and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe, earning several medals; and

WHEREAS, Nelson Peterson worked as a history teacher at Silvis Junior High School for 25 years, retiring in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Nelson Peterson was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, the National Education Association, and the Modern Woodmen of America; and

WHEREAS, Nelson Peterson is survived by his cousins, Sylvia Maravelli, Kaye Strate, Susan Coopman, and Todd Nerdahl; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Nelson Gene Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nelson Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
