SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harry M. Sandoval of Silvis, who passed away on June 24, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sandoval was born in Silvis to Joseph and Carmen Morales Sandoval on January 16, 1926; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served aboard the USS Richard P. Leary during some of the most fierce naval victories of World War II, which included eight battles in the South Pacific (Saipan, Tinian, Peleliu, Philippines, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Tokyo Bay) from 1944 to 1946; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sandoval worked for International Harvester for 41 years, retiring in 1988; he then worked as a driver for the Milan Auction for 22 years; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sandoval loved to tell the tales of his military experience; in 2009, he attended one of the first Quad City Honor Flights to Washington D.C., which he considered a highlight of his life; he loved spending time with his family and cooking and sharing the food he cooked with family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sandoval was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Peter and John Sandoval, Ruben (Ramona) Sandoval, William "Willie" Sandoval, Valencia Garcia, and Alfonse Sandoval; and his brother-in-law, Roy Guerrero; and

WHEREAS, Harry Sandoval is survived by his son, Harry David (Paula) Sandoval; his granddaughters, Shauna (Todd) Fah and Amanda (Doug) Curless; his great-granddaughters, Madisyn, Bailey, and Allisyn Fah, Aubrey Osborne, and Lily Curless; his siblings, Rufina Guerrero, Oscar (Sally) Sandoval, Charlie (Ruby) Sandoval, Mary (Phillip) Garza, Joseph "Moe" (Rita) Sandoval, and Fred (Pauline) Sandoval; his companion of 41 years, Carol "Bunnie" Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harry M. Sandoval and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harry Sandoval as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
