SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lamar Bates of Calumet City, who passed away on October 26, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was born in Chicago to Lamar Quincy Bates and Lillian Daniels Harris on April 19, 1940; he graduated from the Chicago Public School System, where he was an outstanding basketball player, and enlisted in the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was a faithful employee of the Chicago Transit Authority and retired as a dedicated bus supervisor; he was an active member of his union both during his working years and in retirement; he was active in the political realm as well; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates's humanitarian efforts and services will be missed; he gave back to his community by coaching his grandsons in the Roseland Little League, being a mentor to Obed E. Vanderburg Council #13 Junior Craft, and coaching one of his son's basketball teams; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was an active member of Prince Hall's Fidelity Lodge #103 and was always available to his brothers; he was a father figure to many young men; he was a devout Catholic and member of St. Andrews the Apostle Church; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was preceded in death by his son, Lamar Bates Jr., and his brother, Walter Bates; and

WHEREAS, Lamar Bates is survived by his wife, Callie Bates; his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Bates, Christopher and Lisa Bates, and Elmore Carthans; his daughters and sons-in-law, Deirdre Bates, Angele Bates and David, Lamaria Bates Morris and David, Margarite Bates, Annette Carthans, Patricia Carthans, and Madonna Carthans; his sister, Janet Rowland; and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of Lamar Bates and wish his family and friends comfort in this time of loss; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lamar Bates as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
