SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lamar Bates of Calumet City, who passed
4away on October 26, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was born in Chicago to Lamar Quincy
6Bates and Lillian Daniels Harris on April 19, 1940; he
7graduated from the Chicago Public School System, where he was
8an outstanding basketball player, and enlisted in the United
9States Air Force; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was a faithful employee of the Chicago
11Transit Authority and retired as a dedicated bus supervisor; he
12was an active member of his union both during his working years
13and in retirement; he was active in the political realm as
14well; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates's humanitarian efforts and services
16will be missed; he gave back to his community by coaching his
17grandsons in the Roseland Little League, being a mentor to Obed
18E. Vanderburg Council #13 Junior Craft, and coaching one of his
19son's basketball teams; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was an active member of Prince Hall's
21Fidelity Lodge #103 and was always available to his brothers;

1he was a father figure to many young men; he was a devout
2Catholic and member of St. Andrews the Apostle Church; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates was preceded in death by his son,
4Lamar Bates Jr., and his brother, Walter Bates; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lamar Bates is survived by his wife, Callie Bates;
6his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Bates,
7Christopher and Lisa Bates, and Elmore Carthans; his daughters
8and sons-in-law, Deirdre Bates, Angele Bates and David, Lamaria
9Bates Morris and David, Margarite Bates, Annette Carthans,
10Patricia Carthans, and Madonna Carthans; his sister, Janet
11Rowland; and many cherished grandchildren,
12great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces,
13nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family and friends, the death of Lamar Bates and wish his
17family and friends comfort in this time of loss; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Lamar Bates as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
