SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Juanita Smith Dewith Barton of
4Springfield, who passed away on May 8, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was born in Springfield to Walter
6B. Smith Sr. and Viola Smith Burney on October 20, 1926; she
7attended Iles Elementary School, Feitshans High School,
8Lincoln Land Community College, and Sangamon State University;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was an employee of the Arbee
11Printing Co., Sangamo Electric, the City of Springfield, and
12the State of Illinois Executive Ethics Commission; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was an activist, president,
14vice-president, secretary, executive board member, board
15member, and a member of various civic, community, and national
16organizations; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was preceded in death by her
18parents; her husband, Kenneth E. Barton Sr.; her daughter,
19Allison Dewith Wilson and son, Eugene J. Mitchell; and her
20siblings, Walter B. Smith Jr., Marguerite Roberts, Elwood W.
21Smith, Robert C. Smith, James Smith, and Samuel Smith; and

1    WHEREAS, Juanita Barton is survived by her son, Enyo
2Dewith; her daughters, Mrs. Charles (Cecine Dewith) Jones, Mrs.
3William J. (Letitia Dewith) Anderson, Mrs. Stephen (Shannon
4Dewith) McCormick, and Mrs. Juan A. (Jai Dewith) Jones; her
5stepsons, Kenneth E. Barton Jr. (Diane) and James W. Barton
6(Antionette); her stepdaughter, Llewelyn T. Barton; 26
7grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 10
8great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews,
9cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Juanita Smith Dewith Barton and extend our sincere condolences
13to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Juanita Barton as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
