SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Juanita Smith Dewith Barton of Springfield, who passed away on May 8, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was born in Springfield to Walter B. Smith Sr. and Viola Smith Burney on October 20, 1926; she attended Iles Elementary School, Feitshans High School, Lincoln Land Community College, and Sangamon State University; and

WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was an employee of the Arbee Printing Co., Sangamo Electric, the City of Springfield, and the State of Illinois Executive Ethics Commission; and

WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was an activist, president, vice-president, secretary, executive board member, board member, and a member of various civic, community, and national organizations; and

WHEREAS, Juanita Barton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth E. Barton Sr.; her daughter, Allison Dewith Wilson and son, Eugene J. Mitchell; and her siblings, Walter B. Smith Jr., Marguerite Roberts, Elwood W. Smith, Robert C. Smith, James Smith, and Samuel Smith; and

WHEREAS, Juanita Barton is survived by her son, Enyo Dewith; her daughters, Mrs. Charles (Cecine Dewith) Jones, Mrs. William J. (Letitia Dewith) Anderson, Mrs. Stephen (Shannon Dewith) McCormick, and Mrs. Juan A. (Jai Dewith) Jones; her stepsons, Kenneth E. Barton Jr. (Diane) and James W. Barton (Antionette); her stepdaughter, Llewelyn T. Barton; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Juanita Smith Dewith Barton and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Juanita Barton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
