SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Betsy G. Berry of Michigan City, Indiana,
4who passed away on April 26, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betsy Berry was born in Chicago; she served in the
6U.S. Navy in the 1940s and graduated from Roosevelt University;
7she married Edwin C. "Bill" Berry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in
8September 1956; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Betsy Berry had a successful career as a real
10estate agent in the Hyde Park area; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Betsy Berry moved to Michigan City, Indiana in the
12late 1980s; she worked with the Three Oaks Food Pantry and
13volunteered at the homeless shelter; she was on the Literacy
14Advisory Board of the Michigan City Public Library, where she
15tutored English as a second language; she was a mentor at the
16Hours For Ours program at Michigan City schools and served as a
17board member of the North Central Community Action Agency; she
18was dedicated to promoting civil rights throughout her
19lifetime; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Betsy Berry was preceded in death by her husband,
21Bill; her adopted son, Myron H. Wahls; and her brother, Robert

2    WHEREAS, Betsy Berry is survived by her adopted children,
3Joseph M. Berry, Charles Carter, Westina Matthews Shatteen, and
4Melanie Berry; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many
5nieces and nephews; and numerous friends in the Michigan City
6and Chicago area; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Betsy G. Berry and extend our sincere condolences to her
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Betsy Berry as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
