SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James W. "Jim" Gardner of Rantoul, who passed away on April 18, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was born in Urbana to Willard and Olive (Kyler) Gardner on November 6, 1949; he graduated from Rantoul Township High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gardner worked at the Clinton Power Station for several years; he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 149 since 1970; he started as a project manager for A&R Mechanical in 1980, serving as the company's senior project manager for 25 years; his signature projects included some of the most difficult and complicated mechanical systems built in central Illinois, including the U of I Abbott Power Plant renovations, the U of I Petascale Supercomputer, the U of I Chemical and Life Sciences Building, the U of I Memorial Stadium renovations, the U of I State Farm Center renovations, and the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was known as "Snake" to his friends; he enjoyed golf and played in multiple golf leagues; he loved to travel and spend time in Florida on the beach; he also enjoyed hosting family for memorable vacations; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gardner is survived by his daughters, Angie (Jim) Hannagan, Jamie (Corey) Evans, and Tracy (Ben) Gernentz; his brother, Melvin (Carol) Gardner; his grandchildren, Taylor, Rowdy, and Cooper Hannagan, Mikayla, Carter, and Brady Evans, Bryce Sjoken, and Dalton Gernentz; and his nephew, Brian Gardner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James W. "Jim" Gardner and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Gardner as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
