SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James W. "Jim" Gardner of Rantoul, who
4passed away on April 18, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was born in Urbana to Willard and
6Olive (Kyler) Gardner on November 6, 1949; he graduated from
7Rantoul Township High School in 1949 and served in the U.S.
8National Guard; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Gardner worked at the Clinton Power Station
10for several years; he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters
11Local 149 since 1970; he started as a project manager for A&R
12Mechanical in 1980, serving as the company's senior project
13manager for 25 years; his signature projects included some of
14the most difficult and complicated mechanical systems built in
15central Illinois, including the U of I Abbott Power Plant
16renovations, the U of I Petascale Supercomputer, the U of I
17Chemical and Life Sciences Building, the U of I Memorial
18Stadium renovations, the U of I State Farm Center renovations,
19and the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was known as "Snake" to his friends;
21he enjoyed golf and played in multiple golf leagues; he loved
22to travel and spend time in Florida on the beach; he also

1enjoyed hosting family for memorable vacations; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jim Gardner was preceded in death by his parents;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jim Gardner is survived by his daughters, Angie
5(Jim) Hannagan, Jamie (Corey) Evans, and Tracy (Ben) Gernentz;
6his brother, Melvin (Carol) Gardner; his grandchildren,
7Taylor, Rowdy, and Cooper Hannagan, Mikayla, Carter, and Brady
8Evans, Bryce Sjoken, and Dalton Gernentz; and his nephew, Brian
9Gardner; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12James W. "Jim" Gardner and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Jim Gardner as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
