SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gary Robert VanOteghem of Moline, who passed away on April 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Gary VanOteghem was born in Moline to Robert Charles and Norma Mae McCartney VanOteghem on April 20, 1947; he graduated from Moline High School and attended Black Hawk College; he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969; he married Linda McCoy in Moline on November 1, 1969; and

WHEREAS, Gary VanOteghem was employed as an assembler by John Deere Harvester Works for 32 years, retiring in 1996; after retiring, he worked for Zimmerman Honda and the Red Dog Run Golf Course; and

WHEREAS, Gary VanOteghem was a member of the East End Club; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears; he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed golfing, bowling, yard work, and music; and

WHEREAS, Gary VanOteghem was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey VanOteghem; his parents; and his sister, Patricia VanOteghem; and

WHEREAS, Gary VanOteghem is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Steve and David VanOteghem; his grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle, and Gabrielle VanOteghem and Alyssa Nuno; his great-grandchildren, Lucy and Eden VanOteghem, Avery Byrne, and Norie Rahmatulla; and his best friend, Russ Reese; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gary Robert VanOteghem and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gary VanOteghem as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
