SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lena W. Rust of Bunker Hill, who passed away on March 14, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Lena Rust was born in Dorsey to William D. and Minnie Pauline (Johnson) Bertels on June 20, 1924; she married Edward Rust at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey on August 24, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Lena Rust was a farm wife, mother, pianist, organist, and cafeteria worker at Bunker Hill schools; and

WHEREAS, Lena Rust was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill for over 30 years, where she played piano and organ and was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society and the Women's Missionary League; she enjoyed tending her garden, quilting, bowling, and traveling with family and friends; she had a reputation for being a good cook; and

WHEREAS, Lena Rust was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Leonard Bertels and Robert Bertels; and

WHEREAS, Lena Rust is survived by her husband, Edward; her son, Kevin (Karen) Rust; her daughter, Teresa (Donald) Hancock; her grandchildren, Brandyn Rust and Gretchen (David) McGinley; her great-grandchildren, Malachi, Raelynn, and Romy McGinley; her brother, Charles (Norma) Bertels; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Bertels, Corleen Heuer, and Doris Rust; her brother-in-law, Dale (Louella) Rust; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lena W. Rust and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lena Rust as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
