| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Betty J. (Genous) Price of Chicago, who | 4 | | passed away on September 2, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi | 6 | | to Deacon Lenwood and Sister Fannie Mae Smith Genous on | 7 | | September 27, 1949; she was educated through Yazoo County and | 8 | | Holmes County School Districts in Mississippi; she graduated | 9 | | from high school in Lexington, Mississippi; she later went to | 10 | | college and earned her Associate Degree in Social Work; she | 11 | | married Earnest Price; together, they had two daughters, Shelia | 12 | | and Chanquanta; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price worked in childcare as a teacher and | 14 | | social worker from 1975 to 1996; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price left her job to begin providing food | 16 | | and clothing for the less fortunate out of her home; she | 17 | | founded the mission Feed, Clothe and Help the Needy (FCHN); she | 18 | | acquired the old meat packing facility at 1234 West 59th Street | 19 | | and renovated the building to move FCHN out of her home in | 20 | | 1997; her mission fed over 1,000 hungry men, women, and | 21 | | children each week; she was a strong advocate for the poor and | 22 | | hungry, and she often appeared on local television to push for |

| 1 | | greater awareness and aide for those in need in her community; | 2 | | and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price was deeply committed to her faith; she | 4 | | attended St. Luke Church of God in Christ and the True Church | 5 | | of Holiness before becoming a proud member of the Freedom | 6 | | Temple Church of God in Christ in 2002; at Freedom Temple, she | 7 | | worked diligently with the Home and Foreign Missions | 8 | | Department; she often utilized the church's kitchen, raising | 9 | | funds for the church whenever there was a need; she was | 10 | | affectionately known as "Mother Price"; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price was preceded in death by her parents | 12 | | and her siblings, Doretha Genous Washington, Daniel Genous, | 13 | | Berneice Genous Parker, Percy Genous, Catherine Genous | 14 | | Greenwood, and Louise Willingham; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Betty Price is survived by her husband of 52 | 16 | | years, Deacon Earnest Price; her eldest daughter, Sheila Price, | 17 | | and her children and grandchildren, Bobby Tate III, Byron Tate, | 18 | | Brionca Tate, Brittney Tate, Briasia Tate, and Nariona | 19 | | Robinson; her great-grandchild, Cateleya Tate; her youngest | 20 | | daughter, Chanquanta Price, and her children and | 21 | | grandchildren, Earlenest Morris, Chanteria Morris, Elisha | 22 | | Morris, Canaan Morris, and Chauncey Price; her godchildren, | 23 | | Lynette Tanner, Derrick Williams, and Kevin Ship; her siblings, |
