SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Betty J. (Genous) Price of Chicago, who
4passed away on September 2, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betty Price was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi
6to Deacon Lenwood and Sister Fannie Mae Smith Genous on
7September 27, 1949; she was educated through Yazoo County and
8Holmes County School Districts in Mississippi; she graduated
9from high school in Lexington, Mississippi; she later went to
10college and earned her Associate Degree in Social Work; she
11married Earnest Price; together, they had two daughters, Shelia
12and Chanquanta; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Betty Price worked in childcare as a teacher and
14social worker from 1975 to 1996; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Betty Price left her job to begin providing food
16and clothing for the less fortunate out of her home; she
17founded the mission Feed, Clothe and Help the Needy (FCHN); she
18acquired the old meat packing facility at 1234 West 59th Street
19and renovated the building to move FCHN out of her home in
201997; her mission fed over 1,000 hungry men, women, and
21children each week; she was a strong advocate for the poor and
22hungry, and she often appeared on local television to push for

1greater awareness and aide for those in need in her community;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Betty Price was deeply committed to her faith; she
4attended St. Luke Church of God in Christ and the True Church
5of Holiness before becoming a proud member of the Freedom
6Temple Church of God in Christ in 2002; at Freedom Temple, she
7worked diligently with the Home and Foreign Missions
8Department; she often utilized the church's kitchen, raising
9funds for the church whenever there was a need; she was
10affectionately known as "Mother Price"; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Betty Price was preceded in death by her parents
12and her siblings, Doretha Genous Washington, Daniel Genous,
13Berneice Genous Parker, Percy Genous, Catherine Genous
14Greenwood, and Louise Willingham; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Betty Price is survived by her husband of 52
16years, Deacon Earnest Price; her eldest daughter, Sheila Price,
17and her children and grandchildren, Bobby Tate III, Byron Tate,
18Brionca Tate, Brittney Tate, Briasia Tate, and Nariona
19Robinson; her great-grandchild, Cateleya Tate; her youngest
20daughter, Chanquanta Price, and her children and
21grandchildren, Earlenest Morris, Chanteria Morris, Elisha
22Morris, Canaan Morris, and Chauncey Price; her godchildren,
23Lynette Tanner, Derrick Williams, and Kevin Ship; her siblings,

1Dorothy Price, Henriette Walls, N.T. Genous (Jeanette),
2Lenwood Genous Jr. (Aggie), John Genous (Margaret), Grant
3Genous (JoAnn), Samuel Genous (Matalie), Wade Cooper III
4(Patrica), Esley Cooper (Darnetta), Carolyn Scott (Chevan),
5Cathy (Lenard) Jackson, Auntie Orlice, Brandi Green, Carlette
6Edwards (Michael), and Betty Mabry; her sister-in-law, Ann
7Genous; her aunt, Laretta Horacee; her very special niece, Boo;
8her Freedom Temple Church family; her special friends in
9sisterhood, Elaine Matthews and Catherine House; and a host of
10nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Betty J. (Genous) Price and extend our sincere condolences to
14her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Betty Price as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
