SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator and
4Carlinville Mayor Deanna Demuzio, who passed away on October
520, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was born in St. Louis, Missouri to
7John and Virginia (Fuess) Clemonds on February 23, 1943; she
8was raised on her family farm in Gillespie; she graduated from
9Gillespie High School in 1961; she married Vince Demuzio on
10June 28, 1962, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2004;
11she attended the Patricia Stevens Modeling School in St. Louis;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio operated her own bridal shop called
14The Inside Story, where she helped make the wedding dreams of
15brides come true; finding her niche in serving others, she went
16to work as a curriculum specialist at Lewis and Clark Community
17College; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was appointed to serve as the
19Illinois State Senator for the 49th District upon the passing
20of her husband in 2004; she was elected to her first term in
21November 2004; during her tenure, she focused on issues close
22to her heart and was proud of her contributions to education

1and healthcare; she was dedicated to improving education and
2developing education policy in Illinois; she championed
3mentoring programs for principals and preschool education; she
4created sufficient funding for local schools; she made it a
5priority to bring better healthcare opportunities to rural and
6under-serviced areas of the State; she received many awards and
7accolades in recognition of her work through the years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio ran for mayor of Carlinville in May
92013 and was elected; while acting as mayor, she served as a
10board trustee for Blackburn College and as a member of the
11Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, the Illinois
12Community Care Connection, the Carlinville Chamber of
13Commerce, the Carlinville Christmas Market, and the Municipal
14League's Legislative Committee; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio will be remembered for her
16dedication to and love for her family, friends, faith, and
17community; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was preceded in death by her
19husband; her son, Bradley Demuzio; her parents; and her
20sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernadette and David
21Hasquin; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio is survived by her daughter,

1Stephanie (Patrick) Blair; her grandchildren, Blake (Mallory)
2Demuzio, Brooke (Michael) Davis, Tristan Blair, and Gillian
3Blair; her great-grandchildren, Cal Demuzio, Olivia Davis, and
4Reagan Davis; her sisters-in-law, Marlene Demuzio, Catherine
5(Pete) Visintin, and Donna (Jim) Burke; and her aunt, Jackie
6Klaus; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9former Illinois State Senator and Carlinville Mayor Deanna
10Demuzio and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
11friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Deanna Demuzio as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
