SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Chafick "Chad" Nicholas Mansour on June 15, 2019 at the age of 94; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on January 19, 1925; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class; during the invasion of Omaha Beach, his landing ship tanker hit a mine; he was one of only a handful of survivors and was awarded the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour earned his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1950; he completed his medical internship at Cook County Hospital and completed his residency in general surgery at the Hines, Illinois V.A. Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was one of the founding members of the medical staff at Gottlieb Hospital, where he served as president and chairman of the Department of Surgery; he also served as chief of surgery at Westlake Hospital and was a professor of surgery at the University of Illinois Medical School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour donated his time as a surgeon to Shriners Hospital for Children; he also had a longtime practice at Elmwood Park Medical Center, where he was beloved by his patients; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a fellow at the American College of Surgeons and was a member of the Chicago Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Hellenic Medical Society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a longtime resident of Oak Park and was a member and benefactor of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church; his happiest times were summers with his family in Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Fotini; his siblings, James, George, Helen, Louis, and Alice; and his sister-in-law, Helen (the late Duke) Gankas; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour is survived by his sister, Lorice (the late Bill) Sullivan; his brother, Raymond (Vincenza) Mansour; his children, Maria (the late Christ) Kamberos, Melina Mansour, and Nicholas (Dina) Mansour; his grandchildren, Brittany (Joe) Cavallaro, Christ Jr. (Alexandra Haake) Kamberos, Lukas Mansour, Ashley Donegan, and Xenia Mansour; his great-grandchildren, Joey Cavallaro and Gabriel Nicholas Kamberos; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing Dr. Chafick "Chad" Mansour, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Mansour as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
