SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Chafick "Chad" Nicholas Mansour on
4June 15, 2019 at the age of 94; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on
6January 19, 1925; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War
7II as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class; during the invasion of
8Omaha Beach, his landing ship tanker hit a mine; he was one of
9only a handful of survivors and was awarded the Purple Heart;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour earned his undergraduate degree at
12Northwestern University and graduated from Northwestern
13University Medical School in 1950; he completed his medical
14internship at Cook County Hospital and completed his residency
15in general surgery at the Hines, Illinois V.A. Hospital; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was one of the founding members of the
17medical staff at Gottlieb Hospital, where he served as
18president and chairman of the Department of Surgery; he also
19served as chief of surgery at Westlake Hospital and was a
20professor of surgery at the University of Illinois Medical
21School; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour donated his time as a surgeon to
2Shriners Hospital for Children; he also had a longtime practice
3at Elmwood Park Medical Center, where he was beloved by his
4patients; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a fellow at the American College
6of Surgeons and was a member of the Chicago Medical Society,
7the Illinois State Medical Society, the American Medical
8Association, and the Hellenic Medical Society; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a longtime resident of Oak Park
10and was a member and benefactor of Assumption Greek Orthodox
11Church; his happiest times were summers with his family in
12Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was preceded in death by his loving
14wife of 64 years, Fotini; his siblings, James, George, Helen,
15Louis, and Alice; and his sister-in-law, Helen (the late Duke)
16Gankas; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour is survived by his sister, Lorice (the
18late Bill) Sullivan; his brother, Raymond (Vincenza) Mansour;
19his children, Maria (the late Christ) Kamberos, Melina Mansour,
20and Nicholas (Dina) Mansour; his grandchildren, Brittany (Joe)
21Cavallaro, Christ Jr. (Alexandra Haake) Kamberos, Lukas
22Mansour, Ashley Donegan, and Xenia Mansour; his

1great-grandchildren, Joey Cavallaro and Gabriel Nicholas
2Kamberos; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
5Dr. Chafick "Chad" Mansour, and extend our sincere condolences
6to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Dr. Mansour as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
