SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David D. Duncan Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on May 2, 2020; and

WHEREAS, David Duncan Sr. was born in Malvina, Mississippi on September 11, 1923; he was raised in Rosedale, Mississippi by Robert Duncan and Lillie Mae Brown Austin Duncan; he married Lillie Duncan in December 1940; together, they had seven children, and she preceded him in death on July 11, 1976; he was drafted into the U.S. Army on October 24, 1944 and served in Japan during WWII; he was honorably discharged on January 24, 1946; he married Lueseal Duncan on April 10, 1980; and

WHEREAS, David Duncan Sr. was committed to his faith; he was a dedicated member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board; and

WHEREAS, David Duncan Sr. enjoyed playing checkers and played in many local tournaments in the Peoria area; he also enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, David Duncan Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lillie; his son, Harold Duncan; one brother; three sisters; and seven grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, David Duncan Sr. is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lueseal Duncan; his sons, David (Betty) D. Duncan Jr., Mose Duncan, George Duncan, Christopher (Sue) Duncan, and Grant (Esterline) Duncan; his stepson, Alphonso (Patricia) Smith; his daughters, Darlene (Willie) White and Shonnel Duncan; his sisters-in-laws, Ruth Jones, Veardie Mae Hill, Classie Gayton, and Louiser Pointer; his brother in-law, L.V. Hill; and a host of family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David D. Duncan Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Duncan Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
