SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new

Amends the School Code. Provides that on or before January 1, 2021, the State Board of Education shall submit a report to the General Assembly containing quantifiable data concerning the way in which schools and school districts are teaching diversity and social sciences subject matter. Provides that following the issuance of the report to the General Assembly, the State Board shall make curriculum concerning diversity and social sciences subject matter available for review on the Internet website of the State Board. Repeals provisions on January 1, 2023. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 2-3.182 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/2-3.182 new)

Sec. 2-3.182. Diversity and social sciences report. On or before January 1, 2021, the State Board of Education shall submit a report to the General Assembly containing quantifiable data concerning the way in which schools and school districts are teaching diversity and social sciences subject matter, including, but not limited to, the Holocaust and genocides, African American history, slavery, women's history, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) history. Following the issuance of the report to the General Assembly, the State Board shall make curriculum concerning diversity and social sciences subject matter available for review on the Internet website of the State Board. This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
