SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

New Act

Creates the Cigarette Filter Plastic Ban Act. Provides that, beginning 2 years after the effective date of the Act, a cigarette shall not utilize a single-use filter containing cellulose acetate, another plastic material, or any non-biodegradable material.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning cigarettes.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Cigarette Filter Plastic Ban Act.

Section 5. Definitions. In this Act:

"Non-biodegradable material" means any substance that, when littered or discarded, is not readily changed to a harmless natural state by the action of bacteria.

"Single-use" means any product reasonably expected to be discarded by consumers after a single use.

Section 10. Prohibition on use of plastic. Beginning 2 years after the effective date of this Act, a cigarette shall not utilize a single-use filter containing cellulose acetate, another plastic material, or any non-biodegradable material in this State.
