725 ILCS 210/4.12

    Amends the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's Act. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the Best Practices Protocol Committee.

1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's
5Act is amended by changing Section 4.12 as follows:
 
6    (725 ILCS 210/4.12)
7    Sec. 4.12. Best Practices Protocol Committee. The Board
8shall shall establish a Best Practices Protocol Committee which
9shall evaluate and recommend a Best Practices Protocol on
10specific issues related to the investigation and prosecution of
11serious criminal offenses. The Best Practices Committee shall
12review the causes of wrongful convictions and make
13recommendations to improve and enhance public safety, with due
14consideration for the rights of the accused. The Best Practices
15Protocol Committee shall:
16        (1) Propose enhanced procedures relevant to the
17    investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses.
18        (2) Collaborate with law enforcement partners in the
19    development of enhanced procedures.
20        (3) Review public and private sector reports dealing
21    with reduction of wrongful convictions.
22        (4) Identify and assess innovations to the criminal
23    justice system.

1        (5) Examine scientific studies concerning new
2    procedures.
3        (6) Create training programs for prosecutors and
4    police on the best practice protocols developed by the
5    Committee in collaboration with law enforcement.
6        (7) Review specific proposals submitted by the General
7    Assembly by way of resolution and report back its findings
8    and recommendations in a timely manner.
