SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

215 ILCS 5/143.24e new

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that an insurer may not use a person's ZIP code in underwriting or rating automobile insurance, including the determination of premium rates.

AN ACT concerning regulation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by adding Section 143.24e as follows:

(215 ILCS 5/143.24e new)

Sec. 143.24e. ZIP code discrimination prohibited. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an insurer authorized to do business in this State may not use a person's ZIP code in underwriting or rating automobile insurance, including the determination of premium rates.
