HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod for his 40 years of public service to the Village of Hoffman Estates; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod was first elected mayor of the Village of Hoffman Estates in April 2001, after serving as acting mayor since September 2000; he was reelected in April 2005, April 2009, April 2013, and April 2017; previously, he served as village trustee from September 1980 to April 2001; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mayor McLeod has dedicated himself to the growth and sustainability of Hoffman Estates in the areas of economic development and business retention, housing, infrastructure, and transportation; he has also prioritized intergovernmental relationships and is active on local, regional, and state committees to ensure residents and business owners receive the best representation; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod successfully advocated for the creation of an Economic Development Committee and was instrumental in the creation of the Hoffman Estates Historical Museum; he helped spearhead and guide the development of the highly visible Barrington Interchange; in 2018 and 2019, he worked with the Hoffman Estates Board and Village staff to secure a multi-million dollar deal with Somerset Development to convert the former AT&T campus into a thriving "metroburb", which will create an exciting, walkable downtown-style centerpiece for Hoffman Estates and will include 1.2 million square feet of office space, 60,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, and 60,000 square feet of conference facilities, storage, and amenities; he is working for the further redevelopment of the Village Green as part of the Hoffman Estates entertainment district; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is a long-standing supporter of the environment; he is one of 1,000 U.S. Mayors to sign The U.S. Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement; he is working for village sustainability and promoting wind and solar projects in Hoffman Estates; he is also working on bike paths, both on-street and designated lanes, as a priority project; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has served as a representative of Hoffman Estates in a number of organizations, including the Schaumburg Regional Air Park Board, the Regional Cable Group, WINGS, the Children's Advocacy Center, and the Cook County Suburban PACE Board; he represents Hoffman Estates at the Northwest Municipal Conference, where he previously served as president and chair of its Economic Development Committee, co-chair of the Legislative Committee, and chair of the Transportation Committee; he serves as a member of the Transportation Steering Committee and the Communications Committee with the U.S. Conference of Mayors; he serves as a director of the Joint Action Water Agency and is a former director of the Greater Woodfield Convention and Visitors Bureau; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving as mayor, Mayor McLeod was a small business owner for 35 years, served as a legislative assistant to an Illinois State Representative for 4 years, served as a board member of the Greater Chicagoland Parents of the Hearing Impaired, and was president of the Castleford/Hearthstone Homeowners Association; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod enjoys reading, walking, history, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is married to Joane; together, they have eight children and 12 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Mayor William D. "Bill" McLeod on his 40 years of public service to the Village of Hoffman Estates, and we recognize his commitment to the community and wish him continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mayor McLeod as an expression of our esteem and respect.
