HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the East St. Louis High School football team, the Flyers, on winning the 2019 Class 6A Illinois High School Association State (IHSA) Football Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Flyers claimed their school's ninth football championship with a 43 to 21 win over Prairie Ridge High School (Crystal Lake) at Huskie Stadium on the campus of Northern Illinois University in Dekalb; and

WHEREAS, The Flyers compiled a perfect season of 14 wins and zero losses on their way to their latest championship; and

WHEREAS, The Flyers are led by Head Coach Darren Sunkett and Assistant Coach Terry Hawthorne; and

WHEREAS, East St. Louis High School is the first IHSA school to win the state championship in basketball, football, and track and field in the same calender year, putting the City of Champions into a class all by itself; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the East St. Louis High School football team, the Flyers, on winning the 2019 Class 6A Illinois High School Association State Football Championship, and we wish them many more successful seasons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the coaches and members of the Flyers as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
