HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative Wayne Gene Alstat, who passed away on November 16, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was born to William and Verena Alstat in Ora Township on February 22, 1934; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Barbara Shields on July 22, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat had many successful careers, including working for the Illinois Department of Agriculture and for the Illinois Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat deeply valued his community; he served as the Township Highway Commissioner of Ora Township, and later became only the second write-in candidate for his position in the history of Illinois to win in the 82nd session of the House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Rep. Alstat continued to work on his family farm with his sons Bill and Alan; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was a kind and generous man; he was involved with the Jackson County Farm Bureau, the American Legion, the Eagles, the Elks, and in his Lutheran faith; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was preceded in death by his son, Bill Alstat; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Yvonne Murray, Alan Alstat, and Laurie Rendleman; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Carolyn Liss; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative Wayne Gene Alstat and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rep. Alstat as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
