HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Illinois State Representative Wayne Gene Alstat, who passed
5away on November 16, 2019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was born to William and Verena Alstat
7in Ora Township on February 22, 1934; he served in the U.S.
8Army during the Korean War and married Barbara Shields on July
922, 1960; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat had many successful careers,
11including working for the Illinois Department of Agriculture
12and for the Illinois Department of Corrections; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat deeply valued his community; he served
14as the Township Highway Commissioner of Ora Township, and later
15became only the second write-in candidate for his position in
16the history of Illinois to win in the 82nd session of the House
17of Representatives; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Rep. Alstat continued to work
19on his family farm with his sons Bill and Alan; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was a kind and generous man; he was

1involved with the Jackson County Farm Bureau, the American
2Legion, the Eagles, the Elks, and in his Lutheran faith; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat was preceded in death by his son, Bill
4Alstat; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Alstat is survived by his wife, Barbara; his
6children, Yvonne Murray, Alan Alstat, and Laurie Rendleman;
7seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister,
8Carolyn Liss; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative
12Wayne Gene Alstat and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Rep. Alstat as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
