HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative John C. "Jack" McGuire, who passed away on January 2, 2020 at the age of 86; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was born in Joliet to Emmett and Mildred McGuire on May 12, 1933; he was a parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Joliet; he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire attended Joliet Junior College and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame; he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War; he enrolled in Colorado State College after completing his tour and graduated in 1958; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was a member of American Legion Post 1080, the Irish-American Society of County Will, and Cantigny Post 367 VFW; he volunteered for Meals On Wheels and Cornerstone, as well as various other community organizations; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was elected as a Democratic member to the Illinois House of Representatives; he represented the 86th District from 1990 to April 2012 and served as Assistant Majority Leader during the 94th, 95th, and 96th General Assemblies; he was a former Chairman of the House Aging Committee and a champion of senior issues; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire received the 2012 Larry Walsh Lifetime Achievement Award from the Will County Democratic Central Committee; prior to his election to the House of Representatives, he served as Supervisor in Joliet Township from 1982 to 1991 and as a Trustee from 1973 to 1982; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was an avid runner and completed the Chicago Marathon in 1986; he loved golf and taking family trips with all of his grandchildren to Siesta Key, Florida and South Haven, Michigan; he also enjoyed attending Joliet Catholic football games on Friday nights; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn J. "Mitzi" (Miller); his parents; his son, Thomas L. McGuire; his brother, Paul McGuire; his sister, Helen La Barre; and his second wife, Patricia; and

WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire is survived by his children, Kathleen A. (John) Dougherty, Michael E. McGuire, and Julie A. (Thomas) Sicinski; his grandchildren, Jillian (Sean Whitney), Patrick and Michael Dougherty, Thomas, Patrick (Liz), Michael (Amy), and Sean McGuire, and Alexander, Stephanie, Emily, and Zachary Sicinski; his great-grandchildren, Baird, Shae, and Henry McGuire; one great-grandson due in the spring; his twin brother, James E. (Judith) McGuire; his sister-in-law, Marilyn A. McGuire; his brother-in-law, James Miller; his sisters-in-law, Lois Bernhard and Ruth Ann Campbell; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative John C. "Jack" McGuire and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rep. McGuire as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
