HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Alice Elizabeth Dandridge-Turner on the occasion of her 100th birthday on December 25, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner was born to Berry and Sarah Dandridge on December 25, 1919; as a young child, she attended McKinney Elementary School and was a member of the New Sardis Missionary Baptist Church; she attended Lemoyne College in Memphis, Tennessee and Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee; she graduated cum laude from Wilberforce University in Dayton, Ohio and attended the Chicago Teacher's College; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner settled in Chicago and taught on the West Side; she taught for 40 years, retiring in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner is a published poet and sponsored an essay writing contest annually at the elementary school where she taught; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner has a deep and abiding faith and attends Springfield Baptist Church; she is on the Mother's Board and has served as president; she believes in religious training and has worked many summers in her church's Vacation Bible School; she is also active with the Missionary Society; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner is a member of the Foster Senior Club, where she is a "Golden Girl"; the group meets once a week to share laughs and play BINGO and take field trips; each year she participates in a fundraiser fashion show; and

WHEREAS, Alice Dandridge-Turner comes from a line of women who have lived for a century; most notably, her mother lived to be 101, and her grandmother on her father's side lived to be 105; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Alice Elizabeth Dandridge-Turner on her 100th birthday, and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alice Dandridge-Turner as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
