| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Antoine | 4 | | Marvin Lewis; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was born in Chicago to Rodney Alexia | 6 | | Sr. and Antoinette Lewis on May 9, 1979; he was raised in the | 7 | | Village of Matteson, where he attended elementary and high | 8 | | school; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis served in the U.S. Army for 14 | 10 | | years, attaining the rank of captain; he spent time in Germany, | 11 | | Kosovo, Ghana, France, the Dominican Republic, China, Ireland, | 12 | | Thailand, the Philippines, Korea, and Canada; while serving in | 13 | | Afghanistan in 2012, he met the love of his life, Yalena | 14 | | Lopez-Lewis, and they married in March 2018; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was well read and knew the | 16 | | contributions of his ancestors as well as the diversity of | 17 | | their stories; he was devoted to making his own contributions | 18 | | to Africa and the U.S. by showing the black diaspora how | 19 | | beautiful and full of opportunity the continent of Africa is; | 20 | | and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis was committed to life-long |

| 1 | | learning; he was blessed with vision, leadership, clarity, and | 2 | | an understanding of how important it is to have free thought; | 3 | | and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Antoine Lewis is survived by his wife, Yalena | 5 | | Lopez-Lewis; his sons, Antoine Marvin Lewis Jr. and Messiah | 6 | | Phelps; his parents; his siblings, Ronetta Hoskins, Rodney | 7 | | Lewis Jr., Antoinette Lewis Jr., Monica Wilson, Markita Lewis, | 8 | | Michael Lewis, and Angelo Lewis; and numerous aunts, uncles, | 9 | | nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 11 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we mourn the passing of Antoine Marvin Lewis and extend our | 13 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 14 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Antoine Lewis as an expression of | 17 | | our deepest sympathy.
