HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Hawthorn Elementary School South in Vernon Hills on being designated a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in student academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, Hawthorn Elementary School South is one of only 312 public schools in the nation receiving this designation in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Hawthorn Elementary School South has thrived under the leadership of Superintendent Peter Hannigan, Principal Jill Martin, and District 73 School Board Members Robin Cleek, George Fievet, Joel Finfer, Victoria Helander-Heiser, Matt Jacobs, Sonali Patil, and Wes Polen; and

WHEREAS, Hawthorn Elementary School South is recognized with this distinct honor because of its masterful learning activities in which students explore and deeply engage with content in a joyful, exciting manner and its belief that there is nothing more important than growing the whole child by combining robust academics with a full social emotional curriculum; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program also recognized Hawthorn Elementary School South's theme for the 2019-2020 school year of "today a reader, tomorrow a leader," which provides students with leadership opportunities while also focusing on a love for reading; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Hawthorn Elementary School South on being designated a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School, and we wish the faculty, staff, and administration many more years of success and service to the children and families of the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hawthorn Elementary School South as an expression of our esteem and respect.
