| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Wesley L. | 4 | | "Wes" Barr Jr. of Springfield, who passed away on October 1, | 5 | | 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Wes Barr was born on May 16, 1963; he lived in the | 7 | | former John Hay Homes housing project on the East Side of | 8 | | Springfield until he was 13; then, he worked at McDonald's and | 9 | | graduated from Southeast High School; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Wes Barr joined | 11 | | the United States Marines and then served as a correctional | 12 | | officer at the Sangamon County Jail and as a police officer in | 13 | | the communities of Loami, Illiopolis, and Chatham; he joined | 14 | | the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office in 1991; he was elected as | 15 | | a trustee for Prairie Creek Township in 2009 and 2013; he | 16 | | served as Sangamon County Sheriff from 2014 until 2018; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Wes Barr and his wife, Sherry, served with several | 18 | | charitable and community organizations, including Contact | 19 | | Ministries, the Illinois Capital Area Chapter of the American | 20 | | Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the United Cerebral Palsy | 21 | | Fund, and the Springfield Park District Foundation Board; in | 22 | | 2007, he was named First Citizen by The State Journal Register |

| 1 | | partially because of his work with Toys for Tots, which | 2 | | collected 14,000 toys in 2006 under his local leadership; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Wes Barr is survived by his wife of 24 years, | 4 | | Sherry Coons; his father, Wesley L. Barr Sr.; his sisters, | 5 | | Betty (Hip) Phu and Robin (Wymond) Stubbs; his brothers, | 6 | | Michael and Joe Barr; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, | 7 | | nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we mourn the passing of Wesley L. "Wes" Barr Jr. and extend our | 11 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 12 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Wes Barr as an expression of our | 15 | | deepest sympathy.
