HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is
3committed to enforcing immigration laws to secure the border
4and keep the American people safe; and
 
5    WHEREAS, DHS is taking action to disrupt cartels,
6smugglers, human traffickers, terrorism, and bad actors; and
 
7    WHEREAS, These actions include referring and prosecuting
8illegal border crossings, strengthening the barrier along the
9border, and deploying the National Guard; and
 
10    WHEREAS, DHS is also working to close legal loopholes that
11have created policies that invite illegal immigration; and
 
12    WHEREAS, DHS Agents and National Guardsmen risk their lives
13and health to protect our country and citizens by working in
14often-dangerous situations; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Some elected officials have seen fit to trivialize
16and demean the hard work of DHS Agents and National Guardsmen
17for the sake of partisan politics; and
 
18    WHEREAS, This kind of partisanship does nothing to help
19move discussions on immigration policies in the right direction

1or to keep people safe; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we stand with the Department of Homeland Security and the
5National Guard as they continue to protect the border and keep
6the country safe; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we condemn unfounded attacks on government
8employees who are working hard to protect the border and
9condemn divisive partisanship from any elected official who
10seeks to undermine that work; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
13Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck
14Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy
15Pelosi, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin
16McCarthy, and all members of the Illinois Congressional
17Delegation.
