HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the John Marshall Metropolitan High School ladies basketball team, the Lady Commandos, on winning the 2019 Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Commandos defeated Teutopolis High School by a score of 47 to 44 at Redbird Arena in Normal on February 23, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Commandos compiled a season record of 27 wins and 8 losses on their way to the championship; and

WHEREAS, This is the tenth IHSA championship for the Lady Commandos, a record that doubles the five championships each of two other teams in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Commandos are coached by Head Coach Dorothy L. Gaters, Associate Coach Kimya Murray, and assistant coaches Gwen Howard and Sandra Murphy; the managers are Trevell Jones, George McNeal, and Kristan Williams; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Commandos are Shamiyah Godfrey, Jalyn Jimenez, Brandi Hudson, Dashiera Butts, Dajanae James, Jayonna Smith, Niyah Zamudio, Roquesha Sims, Aaliyah Johnson, Tamariyanna Levy, and Ashante Kizer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the John Marshall Metropolitan High School ladies basketball team, the Lady Commandos, on winning the 2019 Illinois High School Association Class 2A State Championship, and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Lady Commandos and their coaches and staff as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
