HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend James A. "Jim" Karagianis for his exemplary service as a member of the Northbrook Board of Trustees and his many contributions to his community; and

WHEREAS, Jim Karagianis was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Northbrook Board of Trustees on June 8, 1993 and has served for the past 26 years; during his tenure, he served as chair of the Housing and Human Services, Public Works, Public Safety, and Planning and Zoning Committees; he was also a member of the Public Works, Contracts and Franchises, Public Safety, Administration and Finance, and Planning and Zoning Committees; and

WHEREAS, As the chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee for 14 years, Jim Karagianis shared his expertise in the areas of land development and engineering and always had an interest in improving the village; he served as chair of several task forces focused on improving downtown Northbrook; under his guidance, the village adopted the Village Green Overlay District, enacted the Facade Improvement and Streetscape Improvement Grant programs, saw the relocation of Sunset Foods and the transformation of the Skokie Boulevard corridor and the Techny Property, including the Willow Festival Shopping Center, and several major modifications to Northbrook Court; he was also instrumental in the formulation of the village's Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the 30 years he has lived in Northbrook, Jim Karagianis has been active in the community as Northbrook Symphony Board President, Rotary Club of Northbrook Service Director, and a Coat Off Your Back volunteer, among other community commitments; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend James A. "Jim" Karagianis for his exemplary service as a member of the Northbrook Board of Trustees and his many contributions to his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jim Karagianis as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
