HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Morris Picker on the occasion of his 100th birthday on March 7, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Morris Picker was born in Chicago on March 7, 1919; he married Florence on January 7, 1940; she preceded him in death on June 16, 1959; he later married Beatrice in 1966; she preceded him in death in November 2003; and

WHEREAS, Morris Picker was a Private First Class and an Infantry Rifleman Specialist in the United States Army with the 24th Division, 21st Infantry, A Company from November 1944 until February 1946; he fought in the Battle of Leyte during World War II and was shot in the hand; he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal; and

WHEREAS, Morris Picker worked as a furrier for 20 years; he also owned a resale shop; and

WHEREAS, Morris Picker has been a lifelong resident of Cook County and raised his family in the City of Chicago; he has four children, Isabelle, Lenore, Geraldine, and Ralph, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Morris Picker on his 100th birthday on March 7, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Morris Picker as an expression of our esteem and respect.
