SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2505/2505-805 new

    Amends the Department of Revenue Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Creates the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Task Force. Sets forth the membership of the Task Force. Provides that the Task Force shall study the benefits and consequences associated with expanding the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption to all households that are unlikely to have children in public schools due to advanced age. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Revenue Law of the Civil
5Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section
62505-805 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2505/2505-805 new)
8    Sec. 2505-805. Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Task
9Force.
10    (a) The Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Task Force,
11consisting of 8 members, is established. Each of the following
12shall appoint 2 members: the Speaker of the House of
13Representatives, the House Minority Leader, the Senate
14President, and the Senate Minority Leader. The members of the
15Task Force shall select a chairperson. Members of the Task
16Force shall receive no compensation but shall be reimbursed for
17necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
18    (b) The Task Force shall study the benefits and
19consequences associated with expanding the Senior Citizens
20Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption under Section 15-172 of
21the Property Tax Code to all households that are unlikely to
22have children in public schools due to advanced age. The
23Department shall provide the Task Force with administrative and

1other support.
2    (c) The Task Force shall report its findings to the
3Governor and the General Assembly no later than January 31,
42021.
5    (d) This Section is repealed on January 31, 2022.
 
6    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
7becoming law.
