SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2705/2705-620 new

    Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall conduct a study and prepare a report on the feasibility and installation, every 20 miles, of signs that span the width of each interstate highway and display safety messages in brief, bold designs. Provides that the Department shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by December 31, 2021.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding
6Section 2705-620 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-620 new)
8    Sec. 2705-620. Safety sign study. The Department shall
9conduct a study and prepare a report on the feasibility and
10installation, every 20 miles, of signs that span the width of
11each interstate highway and display safety messages in brief,
12bold designs. The messages shall include those determined by
13the Department to be appropriate for educating the public about
14laws pertaining to safe driving, including, but not limited to,
15laws regarding the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle,
16a disabled vehicle, or a highway construction or maintenance
17zone, and laws regarding driving on the right, overtaking on
18the left, and merging. The Department shall submit a report of
19its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by
20December 31, 2021. This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.
