SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
70 ILCS 810/15  from Ch. 96 1/2, par. 6418

    Amends the Cook County Forest Preserve District Act. Provides that 91 days after the effective date of the amendatory Act: (1) the forest preserve district board's authority to appoint and maintain a police force is terminated; and (2) the Cook County Sheriff's Department shall exercise primary jurisdiction over the territory within the forest preserve district. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Cook County Forest Preserve District Act is
5amended by changing Section 15 as follows:
 
6    (70 ILCS 810/15)  (from Ch. 96 1/2, par. 6418)
7    Sec. 15. Police powers in the district.
8    (a) Until 90 days after the effective date of this
9amendatory Act of the 101st General Assembly, the The board
10shall have the right and power to appoint and maintain a
11sufficient police force, the members of which may have and
12exercise police powers over the territory within such forest
13preserves for the preservation of the public peace, and the
14observance and enforcement of the ordinances and laws, such as
15are conferred upon and exercised by the police of organized
16cities and villages; but such police force, when acting within
17the limits of any city or village, but outside the territory
18owned, leased, or licensed by the district and property over
19which the district has easement rights, shall act in aid of the
20regular police force of such city or village and shall then be
21subject to the direction of its chief of police, city or
22village marshals, or other head thereof.
23    (b) 91 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act

1of the 101st General Assembly:
2        (1) the board's authority to appoint and maintain a
3    police force under subsection (a) is terminated; and
4        (2) the Cook County Sheriff's Department shall
5    exercise primary jurisdiction over the territory within
6    the district.

8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9becoming law.
