Synopsis As Introduced Creates the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2006 to replace the Interpreters for the Deaf Act. Provides for the regulation of interpreters for the deaf through licensure by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission. Establishes the Board of Interpreters and provides for evaluation teams. Preempts home rule. Amends the State Finance Act to create the Interpreters for the Deaf Fund. Amends the Code of Civil Procedure to add a provision concerning privileged communications involving interpreters for the hearing impaired. Repeals the Interpreters for the Deaf Act.
Provides that the transfer of rights, powers, and duties of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission under the Interpreters for the Deaf Act to the Commission under the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2006 shall take effect January 1, 2008 (rather than on the effective date of the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2006). Replaces references to "interpreter for the hearing impaired" with "interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing". Amends the Regulatory Sunset Act to repeal the Interpreters for the Deaf Act on January 1, 2008. Sets an effective date of July 1, 2006.
