Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Chicago Firefighter Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides a widow's annuity for the surviving spouse of a firefighter with at least 20 years of service who dies after withdrawing from service but before qualifying for a retirement annuity. Increases the minimum widow's annuity to $1,200 per month for surviving spouses of firefighters who have retired at age 50 or over with at least 20 years of service, and $800 per month for all other surviving spouses who qualify for an annuity. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

 Pension Note (Pension Laws Commission)
 The fiscal impact of HB 317 has not been determined. According to the Fund's actuary, similar legislation would increase the accrued liability of the Fund by an estimated $28.0 million. The level dollar annual payment needed to amortize this estimated increase in unfunded liability over 40 years is $1.9 million.
