Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Re-enacts a provision added by Public Act 89-203 that was held unconstitutional in People v. Wooters, 188 Ill. 2d 500 (1999) as violating the single subject clause of the Illinois Constitution. Re-enacts the provision that requires the court to impose a sentence of natural life imprisonment upon a defendant who has not been sentenced to death and who at the time of the commission of the murder has attained the age of 17 or more and is found guilty of murdering an individual under 12 years of age. Effective immediately.
