Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 relating to false personation. Provides that it is unlawful for a person to falsely represent himself or herself as a Purple Heart recipient or to wear a Purple Heart medal that was not awarded to that person by the United States government. Provides that a violation is a petty offense for which the offender shall be fined at least $100 but not exceeding $200.
Senate Committee Amendment No. 1 Also includes in the offense of false personation that a person falsely represents himself or herself as a recipient of any of the following medals or wears such a medal if it was not awarded to the person: the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Silver Star, or the Bronze Star. Provides that it is a defense that the medal is used, or is intended to be used, exclusively for a dramatic presentation or a historical re-enactment, or for a costume worn, or intended to be worn, by a person under 18 years of age.
