Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987. Makes changes to the definition of "ocular pharmaceutical agents". Amends the Illinois Controlled Substances Act. Includes optometrists in the definitions of "practitioner", "prescriber", and "prescription" and in a provision concerning the scope of the Act.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Adds reference to:
225 ILCS 80/16from Ch. 111, par. 3916

Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the provisions of the bill as introduced with the following changes. In the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987, restores certain references to ocular pharmaceutical agents as being topical agents and makes other changes in the definition of ocular pharmaceutical agents. Sets forth limitations on the prescription of oral pharmaceutical agents for a child under the age of 5 and the prescription of controlled substances. Provides that any licensee seeking renewal of his or her license during the renewal cycle beginning April 1, 2008 must first complete a tested educational course in the use of oral pharmaceutical agents for the management of ocular conditions, as approved by the Illinois Optometric Licensing and Disciplinary Board.
