Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the School Code. Provides that the State Board of Education shall adopt and implement a policy regarding moving students within a school district from a persistently dangerous school to another public school in that district that is not deemed to be persistently dangerous, according to criteria established in rules by the State Board of Education. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 1
Adds reference to:
105 ILCS 5/10-21.3a
105 ILCS 5/34-18.24

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the School Code. Provides for the transfer of students to another school in the district if the school is a persistently dangerous school or if the student is a victim of a violent crime that occurs on school grounds during school hours or during a school-sponsored event. Provides that the State Board of Education shall maintain data and publish a list of persistently dangerous schools on an annual basis. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 2
Provides that one of the criteria to be considered a persistently dangerous school is to have one or more students expelled for bringing a firearm to school as defined in federal law.
