Provides that local units of government shall report to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Department shall post on its official website all preferred truck routes under the local unit of government's jurisdiction which are not classified as Class II or Class III truck routes. Provides that local units of government shall report their designated truck route network or lack of truck routes to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Provides that the Secretary of State shall include in its commercial drivers license curriculum and study guide, and in materials relating to obtaining or renewing a commercial drivers license, the distinctions between utilizing a truck-attributed global positioning system device and other non-truck-attributed global positioning system devices. House Committee Amendment No. 2 Replaces everything after the enacting clause with substantially similar provisions, but with the following changes: (1) provides that the Department shall post on its website a local unit government's preferred truck routes and designated truck route network (instead of only preferred truck routes); (2) provides that if a local unit of government has no preferred truck routes or designated truck routes (instead of only designated truck routes), the local unit of government shall affirm its lack of truck routes to the Department; and (3) provides that the Secretary of State shall develop and make available a brochure regarding distinctions between utilizing different types of global position devices (instead of including the information on all materials relating to obtaining or renewing a commercial drivers license). Effective January 1, 2012.
