Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the School Code. In a provision concerning teachers in school districts other than the Chicago school district, makes the probationary period 2 (instead of 4) consecutive school terms before the teacher enters upon contractual continued service. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

In the Chicago school district, provides that the probationary period for a teacher first employed on or after the effective date of the amendatory Act shall be 2 years (instead of 4 years). Provides that if the teacher is dismissed or discharged during the probationary period, the notice of dismissal or discharge and the general superintendent's written reasons for recommending the dismissal or discharge shall be sent by certified mail, return receipt requested, by the board at least 45 days before the end of the probationary period. Provides that if the teacher has not had one year of full-time teaching experience before the beginning of a probationary period of 2 years, the board may at its option extend the probationary period for one additional year.
