Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Amends the School Code. Requires the Chicago Board of Education to establish a program to identify students who are in need of basic health care, yet are not covered by insurance or public assistance or do not have the financial ability to pay for services and therefore are not receiving appropriate health care, to be known as the Healthy Kids - Healthy Minds Expanded Vision Program. Provides that, through this program, the district, in cooperation with health care providers, shall serve students at a minimum or no cost to the students. Allows for vision examinations and glasses, dental care, hearing examinations and hearing aids, and counseling services to be provided under the program. Provides that eligibility for services must be determined by prioritization of students based on both physical and financial need.
Senate Committee Amendment No. 1 Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the contents of the bill as engrossed with the following changes. Provides that the program must identify students who are in need of basic vision (instead of health) care. Makes related changes. Provides that the requirement that the Chicago school district serve students through the program is subject to appropriation.
