SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Paul Michael Green of Chicago, who
4passed away on September 10, 2016, at the age of 73; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Green served as the Arthur Rubloff Professor
6of Policy Studies at Roosevelt University from 1999 to 2016,
7educating thousands of students during his tenure, and hiring
8every member of the current Department of Political Science and
9Public Administration at the University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 2005, Dr. Green founded the Institute of
11Politics at Roosevelt University, a non-partisan political
12research center that presented unbiased analysis of State and
13local elections in Illinois; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Green was a legendary political commentator,
15expressing his views on local, national, and global political
16issues, and frequently quoted in local, national, and worldwide
17media; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Green was a fixture on the Chicago political
19landscape; he served as a political analyst for WGN Radio,
20guest columnist for Crain's Chicago Business and the Daily
21Herald, and was the author of several books and articles on

1Illinois and Chicago politics; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Green served the City Club of Chicago, a civic
3organization that provides a forum for the discussion of public
4affairs in metropolitan Chicago and the State of Illinois; he
5served as the City Club Governor and Treasurer for more than 25
6years, and as Chairman since 2011; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Green served as Monee Township Supervisor from
81977 to 1983; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Green received his Bachelor of Arts in History
10and Political Science at the University of Illinois and his
11Master of Arts and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Green was preceded in death by his son,
13Robert; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Green is survived by his wife of 47 years,
15Sharon, and his daughter, Sarah; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Green will be deeply missed and remembered for
17his tremendous collegiality, generous heart, and political wit
18and wisdom by infinite numbers of colleagues, students, and
19alumni from Roosevelt University and throughout the city and
20State; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3"Chicago political legend" Dr. Paul Michael Green, and extend
4our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
5knew and loved him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Dr. Green as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
