SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Angel Melendez of Zion, who passed away
4on November 11, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico
6to Felix and Ana (Alvarez) Melendez on December 20, 1951 and
7was a lifelong resident of Lake County; he attended Maryville
8Academy in Des Plaines and graduated from Waukegan Township
9High School in 1969; he entered the military in 1970, where he
10served two years in the United States Marine Corps, and
11received an honorable discharge; he continued his service as a
12member of the Marine Corps Reserve for four years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was employed by the Veterans
14Administration of North Chicago and the Ann Kiley Center; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez received the Veterans
16Administration Performance Award and a Certificate of
17Nomination from the American Legion; he received many other
18accolades; he was an AMVETS Life Member; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez enjoyed riding his motorcycle,
20spending time with his dog, Minnie, and working out at the VA;
21he loved God, his family, and listening to the oldies; and

1    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was preceded in death by his
2father, Felix; his brothers, Isaac and Eladeo; and his sisters,
3Porfiria and Martha; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Angel Melendez is survived by his wife, Anna Maria
5(Nieves) Melendez; his daughters, Hilda Quinones (Jesse D.),
6and Annette; his sons, Michael, and Gabriel Graham; his
7grandchildren, Lisette, Jesse, Yvette, and Julian Quinones,
8and Taylor, Avery, Emma, Kendall, and Elliott Graham; his
9great-grandchildren, Devin, Arian, and Jesse III; his mother,
10Ana; his siblings, Carmen, Santo (Mary), Freddy (Julie), Rose
11Staben (Milton D.), and Ada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
12several greats; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Angel Melendez, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Angel Melendez as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
