SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Thompson T. Wright Sr., who passed
4away on September 27, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was born in Middleton, Prince
6Edward Island (PEI), Canada on July 5, 1919; he graduated from
7Wales College, Charlottetown, PEI in 1939 and became the
8principal of a two-room country schoolhouse on the island; in
91939, he joined the Canadian Army and was mobilized to England
10during World War II; he served as an artillery surveyor and
11gunnery officer in Europe from January 1940 to January 1946; he
12graduated from the British Royal Artillery Officers Training in
131943 and was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1946; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. attended the University of British
15Columbia from 1946 to 1947; he graduated from Ontario
16Veterinary College, University of Toronto in 1952; he was an
17intern with Misener Animal Hospital in Chicago, and then in
181954, he purchased property on River Road in Des Plaines, which
19would become the Wright Animal Hospital, which he owned and
20operated until his retirement in October 1981; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was elected President of the Des
22Plaines Kiwanis Club in 1959; he was elected Des Plaines Park

1District Commissioner in 1976, serving for a total of 26 years;
2he was a life member of the Des Plaines Elks Club; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. served as President of the Illinois
4Academy of Veterinary Medicine in 1974, as Executive Director
5of the Illinois Academy of Veterinary Medicine from 1975 to
61976, and on the board of directors for the Chicago Veterinary
7Medical Association from 1958 to 1963 and from 1976 to 1980,
8serving as President in 1980; he also served on the board of
9directors for Community Chest from 1956 to 1958 and on the
10board of directors for the Boy Scouts of America from 1955 to
111958; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. was preceded in death by his first
13wife, Shirley Trowbridge; his second wife, Janet Howell; his
14brothers, Arthur and Eldon Wright; and his son, William Wright;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright Sr. is survived by nine children; 17
17grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marian
18MacDonald; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Dr. Thompson T. Wright Sr., and extend our sincere condolences
22to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be

3presented to the family of Dr. Wright Sr. as an expression of
4our deepest sympathy.
