SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Burt Olsson of Park Ridge, who passed
4away on August 26, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Burt Olsson was one of the founders of the Kalo
6Foundation, which was established in 2006 to preserve Park
7Ridge's art history and educate the public; he, along with
8others, visited Park Ridge third-graders and high school art
9students to speak to them about Park Ridge's art history,
10focusing on the hand-wrought silver works of the Kalo Shop,
11which created jewelry, bowls, utensils, crafts, and other items
12during the early 20th century; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Burt Olsson's knowledge came from his father,
14Yngve Olsson, a Scandinavian immigrant who worked as a
15silversmith at the Kalo Shop's Chicago location; Yngve Olsson
16went on to become a co-owner of the Kalo Shop in 1959; the shop
17closed for good in 1970; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Burt Olsson was also involved in the now defunct
19Park Ridge Gilbert and Sullivan Society, which staged operas by
20the Victorian-era team of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan;

1    WHEREAS, Burt Olsson is survived by his wife, Iris; his
2daughters, Lisa Heim, Sonia Hayden, and Kristina Zehren; and
3his grandchildren, Benjiman, Rebecca, Michael, and Dylan;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Burt Olsson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
8friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Burt Olsson as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
