SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald W. Schroeder of Rock Island, who
4passed away on July 10, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was born on August 28, 1935 in
6Rock Island; his parents were Wallace and Genevieve R. Timm
7Schroeder; he married Colette Mortell on December 29, 1955 in
8Rock Island; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder graduated from Rock Island High
10School; he served as Director of Public Works for the City of
11Rock Island for 38 years until his retirement; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was a veteran of the United
13States Navy; he was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in
14Rock Island and a former member of Allouez Council 658 Knights
15of Columbus; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder enjoyed playing fast pitch
17softball and participated in several national championships;
18he also participated on a slow pitch softball team in the
19Senior Olympics; his love of sports extended to his coaching
20basketball at Jordan Catholic School for many years, and
21attending and coaching his children's and grandchildren's

1sporting events throughout the years; he was also an avid
2horseman and enjoyed transporting and showing Percherons in his
3later years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was preceded in death by his
5parents and his son, Michael W. Schroeder; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder is survived by his wife, Colette;
7his children, Thomas (Cathy) Schroeder, Anna Johnson, Ed
8(Cindy) Schroeder, Patrick Schroeder, John (Tara) Schroeder,
9Kathleen (Matt) Anderson, and Paul (Annette) Schroeder; 20
10grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald W. Schroeder;
14and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Donald Schroeder as an expression of
17our sympathy.
