SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Daniel Frank Kerpan of Waukegan, who
4passed away on June 24, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Kerpan was born in Beach Park to Paul and
6Ana Kerpan on March 16, 1923; he attended Bonnie Brook Grade
7School and Waukegan Township and Zion Benton Township High
8Schools; he served in the United States Navy during World War
9II in the South Pacific; he married Lois Van Haecke on July 10,
101954; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Upon his return from service, Daniel Kerpan was
12employed at Cyclone Fence in North Chicago; after retirement,
13he spent many years working security at St. Therese Hospital in
14Waukegan; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In October of 2012, Daniel Kerpan and his brother,
16Mike, joined 104 other World War II veterans on a Chicago-area
17Honor Flight for a tour of Washington, D.C.; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Daniel Kerpan was a member of St. Anastasia
19Catholic Church and The Holy Name Society for more than 50
20years; he served on many fund raising projects and was a
21dedicated worker at Wednesday Night Bingo; he was also a member

1of the Knights of Columbus and Lodge 848 of the Croatian
2Fraternal Union; his greatest love was golf and he was a
3longtime member of the Bonnie Brook Golf Club; he was paid a
4special tribute at the family's 50th Annual Kerpan Open for
5organizing the golf tournament in 1957; he loved watching golf
6tournaments and the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and the Bulls; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Daniel Kerpan was preceded in death by his
8parents; his grandson, Baby Ryan Kerpan; his brothers, Louis
9(Patricia), John, Steve (Ann), Jack, Joseph (Stella), Joe
10(Pat), and Paul (Rose); his sisters, Milka (Joso) Sulentic,
11Mary (Tony) Cervac, Katherine, Anna Kerpan, Katherine Kerpan,
12and Eva Conway; and his sister-in-law, Annette Kerpan; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Daniel Kerpan is survived by his wife, Lois; his
14sons, Daniel Jr. (Jan), Donald (Veronica), Richard (Sue), and
15Douglas; his grandsons, Kyle and John; his granddaughters, Kara
16Kerpan and Analise Kerpan; his sister, Amanda (James) Wolf; his
17brother, Michael Kerpan; his sister-in-law, Betty Kerpan; and
18four generations of nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Daniel Frank Kerpan, and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Daniel Kerpan as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
