SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cyril John "C.J." Lehnhardt of Coal
4Valley, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was born in Dubuque, Iowa to
6Albert Henry and Bertha Clara Bergmann Lehnhardt on November
720, 1923; he graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and, at
8age 19, entered the United States Army 10th Mountain Division
9ski troop; during World War II, he was sent to the Po Valley
10and Apennine Mountains of Northern Italy, where he served not
11on skis, but on snowshoes; he married Doris Milne in Moline on
12March 15, 1958; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt worked for seven years as a
14pattern-maker in Dubuque and Chicago before being hired at the
15John Deere Foundry in East Moline, where he worked mainly in
16the seeding division, creating parts for planters; he was with
17John Deere for 31 years, retiring in 1986; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was a collector of various things,
19including trains, model tractors, and old switchman lanterns;
20he was a member of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, the
21Central Electric Rail Fans Association, the Railway and
22Locomotive Historical Society, and the Antique Engine Tractor

1Association; he was a charter member of the Two-Cylinder Club
2(now the Deere Valley Collectors Tractor Club) and the Iowa
3Chapter National Railroad Historical Society; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was a member of Colona United
5Methodist Church and Coal Valley Masonic Lodge 547; he was a
6charter member of the Coal Valley State Bank and the Quad
7Cities Pattern Maker's Federal Credit Union; he served on the
8Board of Directors for the Blackhawk State Bank in Milan for 25
9years, up to the age of 88; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was preceded in death by his wife,
11Doris; his brothers, Kenneth and Donald Lehnhardt; his sisters,
12Marcella Luz and Doris Lehnhardt; and his nephews, Wayne
13Schmidt and Gary Lehnhardt; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt is survived by his nieces and
15nephews, Dr. Warren and Carla Schmidt, David Luz, Debbie
16Arebalo, Shelley and Rod Kirsch, Barbara and Barney Bishop,
17Richard Lehnhardt, Robert and Carol Lehnhardt, Pamela
18Beauchamp, Steven and Cindy Sim, and Mary Ann Crimmins; and
19many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Diane
20Beauchamp and Jeraldine Clewell; and a special caregiver,
21Deborah Chokkalingam; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Cyril John "C.J." Lehnhardt, and extend our sincere condolences
3to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Cyril Lehnhardt as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
