SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ken M. Christy of Aurora, who passed away
4on March 26, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was born in Chicago to Ken and
6Carmella (DeGrazia) Christy on September 18, 1944; he graduated
7from Proviso West High School and attended Triton College,
8DePaul University, and the University of Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was employed by the Aurora Post Office
10as a letter carrier for over 30 years, retiring in 2011; prior
11to becoming a letter carrier, he worked in retail management
12for a national grocery store chain; he was inducted into the
13Illinois Hall of Fame for Letter Carriers in 2012; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ken Christy served as the Aurora Township Clerk,
15beginning in 2013; he was past President of the National
16Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Union Local 219 for 25
17years, and was the current President of the NALC for the State
18of Illinois; he was very involved in politics, volunteering,
19and raising money for many charities; he was awarded the Kane
20County Democrat Harry S. Truman award in 2012; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was a member of Our Lady of Good

1Council Catholic Church in Aurora; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ken Christy was preceded in death by his parents;
3his sisters, Charmaine Pliska and Margaret Chase; and his
4brother, Lawrence Christy; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Christy is survived by his wife of 52 years,
6Bonnie; his 3 daughters, Kristin (Dion) Hadley, Kathleen (Ken)
7Steil, and Karrie (Dave) Campbell; his 5 grandchildren, Sara
8Steil, Ken Steil III, Michael Squires, Jennifer Steil, and Ally
9Hadley; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Ken M. Christy, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Ken Christy as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
